AMGA 2024: TINUBU PLEDGES TO COMBAT INSECURITY, FIGHT VIOLENT CRIMES IN NIGERIA

Nigeria’s President and Chairman of Economic Community of West African State, ECOWAS, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured of his administration’s commitment to ridding Nigeria of insecurity and fighting violent crimes.

The President made the vow at the closing ceremony of the 2024 African Military Games , AFMG, held in Abuja, stressing the importance of camaraderie among African militaries to nurture peace and cooperation.

The Vice President, Kashim Shetima who represented President Tinubu at the event read in a statement that the Nigerian leader expressed his resolve to eradicate security threat in Nigeria and contribute to regional stability.

“Let me use this opportunity to declare the resolve and commitment of my administration to rid the nation of security threat and violent crimes “ President Tinubu asserted.

“Moreover, as the ECOWAS Chairman, I want to emphasize my determination to stabilize the sub-region and indeed the entire African continent to ensure its prosperity” he said .

Explaining the importance of the African Military Games, which marked the event’s return after two decades, Tinubu eulogized the games as a vital platform for strengthening military cooperation and boosting moral across the continent.

“The spirit of comradeship and friendship that is crucial to enhance cooperation among our armed forces is more important now than ever “ he added.

The President emphasized the importance of physical fitness for military personnel, stressing that armed forces require personnel who are physically fit at all times.He added that sporting activities are essential for maintaining the physical, mental and emotional well-being of soldiers.

The President commended Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa and the President of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa, OSMA, Major General Maikano Abdullahi for their efforts to see that the event is a success.

According to Nigerian Pilot Newspaper, team Nigeria emerged victorious as it had a total of 234 medals including 114 golds, while Algeria clinched second position with 96 medals and Kenya in third place with 50 medals.
