Remi Tinubu donates N50m to best female graduates at JABU

The wife of President Bola Tinubu, Oluremi, has instituted an endowment fund of N50 million for the best graduating female students of Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Ikeji Arakeji, Osun State.

Nigeria’s First Lady made the donation to the university following her conferment with an honorary doctoral degree during the 15th convocation ceremony of the institution.

According to the president’s wife, who was represented by the First Lady of Ekiti State, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, the endowment fund will further spur female students in their mission of academic excellence and innovation.

While expressing her belief in empowering women through education, she stated, “Education has always been a critical pillar in the development of individuals and the nation as a whole. Therefore, I am deeply honoured by this recognition, which inspires me to continue serving both humanity and our nation.”

“In line with my commitment to supporting education, I am pleased to announce a donation of 50 million Naira. This fund is intended to further their mission of academic excellence and innovation.

“This fund will serve as an encouragement and reward for outstanding academic achievement. I trust that the university management will administer this fund judiciously for the benefit of the students and the institution.”

Meanwhile, the Pro-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed that the endowment fund will be awarded annually for the next 10 years, stressing that the best graduating female student will receive N5 million.

“The recipient will receive 5 million Naira, a generous initiative sponsored by Senator Oluremi Tinubu. This award, aptly named the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Prize for Academic Excellence, underscores our dedication to recognizing and rewarding outstanding achievement.”

“I am pleased to announce that this year, the overall best graduating student is a female—a testament to the remarkable strides women are making in education. Furthermore, I must commend the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who has already credited the university’s account with an impressive 50 million Naira to support this noble cause.”

On his part, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Olasebikan Fakolujo, revealed that no fewer than 626 students will be graduated during the convocation, stressing that 50 graduands bagged First Class, while the best graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session was identified as Mary Ojone Omachi, of the Department of Mass Communication, who bagged a CGPA of 4.88.
